Opportunity Finance Network’s mission is to lead the opportunity finance system to scale through capital formation, policy, and capacity development. Our core purpose—the reason we exist—is to align capital with social, economic, and political justice. Two core values anchor our work:
- Justice: Every facet of our work is directed toward and reflects an unwavering commitment to fair and equal access to, opportunity in, and responsibility for social, economic, and political life. For us, justice is a unifying value.
- Excellence: The people and communities Opportunity Finance Members serve have a right to expect excellence, and we have a responsibility to provide it. A commitment to excellence is a statement of respect for our customers, investors, funders, staff, Board, and Members.
Opportunity Finance Network stands by and works within these values without regard to circumstantial or environmental changes. These values define our corporate identity and culture, as well as our policy direction.
Our policy agenda incorporates our mission, core purpose, and core values, and seeks to promote these to federal elected officials and regulators, so that those with political influence can help us further our mission.
Opportunity Finance Network has the credibility in diverse arenas to bring people together—banking, trade associations, regulators, Congress, the White House, the opportunity finance industry, and the community development world. We have the experience and expertise to produce key policy outcomes; our policy work includes leadership in creating the CDFI Fund, key bank regulatory changes to encourage new types of investments in underserved markets, measures to strengthen and preserve the Community Reinvestment Act, coalition building in support of core programs and opposing ill-intended efforts to undermine them, and events to bring policy constituencies together across partisan and ideological divides.
Our Network comprises tens—perhaps hundreds—of thousands of people and institutions connected to our work in urban, rural, and reservation-based communities in all 50 states. We are united in pursuit of a world where all people have the resources and opportunities to act in the best interests of themselves, their communities, and future generations. This policy agenda is an expression of that pursuit.
Opportunity Finance Network has the standing, the history, the experience, the ideas, and the people to lead us into the new opportunity era.
