Industry Statistics

There are approximately 1295 CDFIs and other opportunity finance institutions currently operating in the United States, including:

• More than 500 community development loan funds
• More than 80 venture capital funds
• More than 290 community development credit unions
• More than 350 community development banks

The following statistics are based on the CDFI Data Project's (CDP) FY 2008 data collection efforts. The CDP collected performance and outcome data on 495 CDFIs including 68 community development banks, 284 credit unions, 145 loan funds, and 1 venture capital funds. All figures are fiscal year end 2008:

• Total financing closed in FY 2006: $5.53 billion
• Housing units financed: 60,205
• Jobs created or retained: 35,624
• Mortgages provided: 16, 405
